About KOTAS

Kota Samarahan Amateur Swimming Association (KOTAS) was established in 2009. KOTAS is run on a voluntary basis by our swimmers’ parents.

KOTAS is affiliated to the state swimming body, the Amateur Swimming Association of Sarawak (ASAS) and is supported in part by the State Sports Council. Therefore, we are able to provide our youth members, i.e., swimmers with an excellent pathway to swimming at elite representative levels.

KOTAS has risen rapidly to be the premier swimming association in Sarawak. In 2018, several KOTAS swimmers have qualified for state representative opportunities at the Malaysian National Age-Group (NAG) Swimming Championships, the Malaysian school games (MSSM). KOTAS presently boasts a number of national age-group record holders and medalists as well as several swimmers who have gone on to swim for Malaysia internationally at regional games and the Olympic Games.

KOTAS objective is to engage more children to swim competitively in a friendly, pleasurable and successful learning environment which promotes the development of each swimmer to his/her fullest potential, whether it is a state or national level. Swimmers are trained between 5-12 sessions per week under our experienced coaches.

Swimmers are selected by our talent scouts. They have generally already learned to swim competently in at least two strokes and have shown potential and passion for the sport. Our association then gives them the opportunity to develop their technique, speed and stamina. Swimmers must meet training attendance and time targets to maintain their membership of the association. Parental commitment is also vital.

KOTAS aims to instil a life-long love of swimming in children and to build their progress through excellence in training, strong team spirit, caring and support in their well-being and character development.

KOTAS organises a yearly Primary & Secondary Inter-School Swimming Championship for schools in the Samarahan and Kuching Divisions. We provide a platform for our swimmers to gain exposure by participating at other swimming meets in Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, enabling them to gauge their training effectiveness and showcase their strengths.

Our association’s financial resources come from both public and private sector funding. Donations from generous local corporate sponsors have enabled KOTAS to continue expanding our programme and promoting a positive and healthy sports activity for our youth.  Our training fee is kept to a minimum to enable every child with a talent of swimming is able to pursue the sport to the highest level.
